#YEG Girl Geeks

YEG Geek GirlWhy a dinner focused on female geeks? Don’t we all connect enough at events around town?

Well ladies, let’s face the facts. We’re still less likely to be found in a Science, Engineering or Technology career. Those of us in careers where we’re pushing the boundaries, gushing over new technology or gadgets, and nerding out over the latest tech news – often are surrounded by men, or coworkers who don’t share the same passions. It’s usually difficult to find like-minded women who are interesting in technology. That’s where Girl Geek Dinners comes in. The events are held to inspire. To help break down barriers. To destroy stereotypes about ‘girl geeks’. To encourage other women to come forward as geek-chic ladies, and to encourage the next generation to consider pursuing careers in Science and Tech industries.

But this isn’t a “no boys allowed” zone. We won’t be nailing that sign to the tree outside our fort any time soon. (Also, we don’t have a fort. We should work on that.) Men are allowed, and heck, encouraged to come and share their curiosity and expertise with the rest of us.  There is one rule though: those men need to be invited by a participating Girl Geek Dinner member, and there’s a one invite per dinner rule. So even if every girl geek brings a boy geek, we’re still at 50-50. Fair, right?

So why Girl Geek Dinners? What have we got to lose? Let’s support each other, learn new things, and start meeting like-minded women!

Can’t wait to see you there.
